Sources Of Strength is...

A best practice youth suicide prevention project designed to harness the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent suicide by increasing help seeking behaviors and promoting connections between peers and caring adults. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention. This upstream model strengthens multiple sources of support (protective factors) around young individuals so that when times get hard they have strengths to rely on.

In the last three years, we’ve raised and given away over $50,000 to four area D-38 and D-20 high schools for the suicide prevention program, Sources of Strength.

Virtual Run/Walk FAQ (frequently asked questions)

As a virtual runner, you can run from your house, you can go to your favorite running trail -- wherever you choose! You will time yourself, then enter your time on the race results website

Running with a GPS watch or tracking app is completely optional -- some runners will use them, and some will not. If you do choose to run with a GPS or Tracking App, you have the option of entering the link to your run map when you enter your run time. Additional info is available in the "Where and How do I Enter My Results" section below.

Results can be entered anytime between 12:01am on September 18th and 11:59pm on September 26th. The "Edit Time" link will appear on the results page at 12:01am on September 18th and it will remain active through September 26th.

You'll enter your time on the Run4Hope results page. Entering times is quick and easy!
You also have the option enter a link to your GPS map if you run with a GPS watch or tracking app on your smartphone. (This is optional -- a GPS link is not required to enter your time). Supported apps include Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, Polar, MapMyRun, RunKeeper, MovesCount, EndoMondo, SportsTrackLive, and TomTom Sports. If your app is not on this list, please feel free to enter it anyway and Racing Underground will do their best to add that app functionality to the results page. Please make sure to set the privacy settings for your run to "Public" or "Everyone" so others can view your run, if you want.

  1. We have added a "virtual" option for runners/walkers who would prefer not to gather on September 18th.
  2. We have a mail option for entry packets for virtual runners/walkers who would prefer to pick up their shirts/packets by mail rather than in person.
  3. We will maintain CDC social distancing and mask standards for the packet/t-shirt pickup.
  4. We will use a "rolling start," rather than a mass start for the live event so that all runners/walkers can maintain social distancing at the start. (Their times begin when their chip crosses the start line, not at the gun).
  5. We will use the parking lot lines as social distancing cues for groups prior to the race and for the Orange Theory stretch.
  6. We will have signs and volunteers and vendors will wear masks reminding people to keep their masks on and maintain distances.
  7. We will use social distancing at the water and color stations by having water on the tables for runners/walkers to pick up and by throwing the color powder from 6-8 feet away.
  8. We will have signs at the run entrance that read, "The Run4Hope staff and Ascent church care about your health. Please follow CDC social distancing guidelines to minimize your exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Maintain at least 6-foot distance (or greater) from others and wear your mask to protect others. Thank you for supporting teen suicide prevention programs and helping us have a safe event!"
  9. We will have hand sanitizer stations and all restrooms will be stocked with disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer.
